A Blue Jay at my bird bath
A blue jay is a common sight at your bird bath. This brightly colored bird is very familiar to most as its bright blue feathers makes it instantly identifiable. Blue jays are also known for their loud calls and the fact that they actually stay together as a family after they are hatched. If you want to really bring the blue jays down to your bird bath, there’s a little secret: they love acorns.
In fact, they’re likely to help spread acorns around your neighborhood, so if you want an oak tree or two, just wait for a blue jay to come around. In addition to recognizing the distinctive coloring of a blue jay, you will eventually come to recognize their calls, too. The blue jay can make several different calls, but they are all quite loud and carry for a good distance. They generally make these calls while they’re up in a tree, not while they’re in your bird bath. Unlike some birds, though, the blue jay does love to visit birdbaths. In fact, they can often be seen diving down to get a drink from a bird bath.
